The
annual Riversway Festival celebrates Preston’s
maritime history and heritage, from the
shipping of the 18 * 1900’s through
to creation of England’s newest
canal - the Ribble Link. The festival
is a great day out for all the family,
a real treat in the Lancashire events
calendar.
The
event is held at the Riversway Dock (fka
the Albert Dock) and is to be held on
24th / 25th July 2010. Boaters from around
the country are already booking their
berths for the weekend and will be arriving
in Preston Marina in the week leading
upto the event, ready to enjoy the festival
on the Saturday and Sunday. 2009 saw record
numbers of narrow-boats and public attending
the weekend event.
Riversway
on the Saturday sees a host of entertainment
around the Marina area, from local brass,
concert and jazz bands through to youth
performances and dancing from the main
stage. Around the site will host craft
stalls, food stalls and information stalls
on local/regional activities.
There will be a range of free family workshops
and activities for you to get involved
with on the day; a highlight of 2009 was
the interactive mobile zoo with wonderful
tropical animals and reptiles and the
historical medieval encampment. The police,
fire brigade and RNLI lifeboat will also
be on hand to demonstrate their water
based activities during the event.
The
day will be rounded off by a spectacular
display from professional champion jet-skiers
and the breath-taking fireworks finale
set to music. New in 2010 will be an exciting
host of new water-based and sports activities
in the dock and River Ribble, both spectator
and participatory, more to be revealed
in the new year!
